MORT CASTLE NEWS

1. Rick Rosenthal ( Bad Boys, Halloween II, Halloween: Resurrection), has extended the option on Tim O'Rawe's screenplay based on my novel The Strangers for his company Whitewater Films. Because Whitewater has done nothing but good films ( Mean Creek, Nearing Grace ), and because Rosenthal directed two seasons of one of my favorite TV shows, Life Goes On, and because the check for the option renewal has been graciously greeted by my bank account, I am not displeased.

2. Writer's Digest Magazine has said "yes" to a new article. It deals with horror and history and a few other things. Should be fun to write.

3. My story "FYI" has been voted a Bram Stoker award finalist. This is one of those stories that matters heaps/plenty/lots to me: It appeared in Jerry Williamson's Masques V, the last book in the series he edited. Yeah, you have to avoid sentiment in your fiction, but in reality...

I have been in all the Masques anthologies. Jerry taught me a lot about writing. I am so pleased that his last hoorah has been honored by my contribution to this final Masques (and co-editor Gary Braunbeck did a true son's work in helping Jer complete this one). I believe the Masques books will be read as long as we read the fright stuff--to help us understand who we are and maybe even why we are.
