Thiago Dal Bello

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Mococa, São Paulo, Brazil, a small town and how they all small towns, there wasn’t anything exciting to do.

How about your schooling? Had you gone under any art training?
I’m graduated in Graphic Design, and I had a few classes in some art schools.

How long have you been working professionally in comics?
I’ve started working professionally in comics around february 2012.

What things — both in art and otherwise — have you worked on, besides comics? Are comics a full-time gig for you or part-time?
I’m working just in comics right now, but since I’ve  graduated in college, I’ve been working as a illustrator freelancer.
And I already worked like graphic designer and drawing prints for t-shirts.

Talk about how you broke into the business –was it easy? Hard? Ups? Downs ? Any interesting anecdotes? When you held your first published work in your hands, how did you feel?
For me, working in comics its like a dream coming true, I just sent some samples of my work and here I am.

How did you settle on the style(s) you’re currently using? If you have multiple styles how did you develop them?
Right now Im in the beginning of my career, so Im just establishing my style, may be after that I would try something new.

How did your parents take to the idea of working in comics?
They’ve been great, with all the support I need.

How would you describe your work space? Is it part of your home, or do you go “to the studio”?
I live with some roommates and I work in my bedroom right in front of my computer 😉

Talk about your family: Parents, siblings, home situation.
I don’t live with my parents anymore, now Im living in São Paulo with a couple of friends, my roommates, but I frequently go back to my home town to visit them.
I have a sister who lives away from me too, but we always meet each other in great holidays.
And nope, Im not married.

What projects do you hope to work on in the future?
I don’t know, may be a project with a famous writer like Alan Moore. ( ok, thats not gonna happen ).

Where do you see yourself in five years? ten?
I just hope to be a better person and a better professional in five years, because doing that I believe that I will be doing great projects.

What is the interest in comics where you live? Do friends and neighbors know you draw comics for a living? How do they react?
People here in Brazil don’t read so many comics like in US, we have a small comic business here, so when I say that I do comics, regular people always ask me if I can make money with that…I guess its all about money 😉

What’s 1 thing you’ll always find in your refrigerator?
Ice.

What’s your favorite food?
Pizza.

What are your favorite interests –Movies? Music? TV? Any hobbies? Sports?
Definitely movies comes first, I really love that, but I also like the other things.

Have you ever thought of writing your own stories?
Yeah, but thats a project for the future.

What’s an average day in your life like?  Walk us through a typical day.
that’s not so exciting.
I wake up,
I do my exercises running around the neighborhood,
I sit in front of my computer,
I work and feed myself.
that’s it!

Do you have any great, unsold projects in your files that nobody’s gotten to see published?
I do not.

If you weren’t a comic-book artist today, what would you be?
I still would working as an artist, definitely.

The single thing you’d most like to be remembered for in your life is…?
I’m not worried with my legacy right now, ask me again in the future!

Any other tidbits of info about you that you are like to share?
